Voidmania - Playdate
A downloadable game
Voidmania
A neon-dithered territory-claiming arcade game for the Playdate handheld.
Carve into the void. Claim the screen. Don't get caught outside the lines.
Voidmania is a fast, minimalist take on the classic "claim the field" arcade formula (Qix, Volfied), reimagined for Playdate's 1-bit screen. Push out from the border into open space, and everything you enclose gets claimed — but every second you spend drawing your line, something out there is hunting you.
How to play
- Move along the border, then push into the open field to start cutting a line.
- Close the loop back to solid ground and the enclosed area is yours.
- Get caught mid-line and you lose it all — and a life.
- Claim 80% of the field to clear the level.
What's coming for you
- Boss — patrols the field, periodically picking a new random direction. Where it stands is where the void reaches from.
- Fireball — ricochets off walls in a straight line. Predictable, but fast.
- Hunter — sits still until you're mid-draw, then locks onto you.
- Life — flees from you while you're cutting a line. Trap it and gain an extra life.
- Time — orbits you while you draw. Trap it and freeze every other enemy for 5 seconds.
Enemies don't just chase you head-on — they can strike your trail from behind, sending an attack racing down the line toward you. Watch your back, not just your front.
